Brat Farrar is the latest three-piece led by Sam Agostino from Melbourne and they’ll be dropping by Cortina Bob on their lengthy European tour for Sunday evening beers and possibly one of the best shows you’ll see so far this year.
After leading some of the finest garage-punk bands of the past few years in Melbourne (Digger & The Pussycats, Kamikaze Trio and Russian Roulettes), Agostino has since traded in the punk and loaded up on all the new wave he could lay his hands on to burst out with Brat Farrar:
a one-man all singing all dancing, new wave machine.
Maybe it’s just my ears and what I listened to a lot growing up but I can hear Sonic Youth and Guided By Voices in there aswell as the rest indicated below and I haven’t heard a better record all year yet…or did I say that about some other band the other day? Well, it’s true in this case too.
In 2011 BRAT FARRAR’s unleashed his debut 45 “It’s on Me” on uber-hip German label P Trash and now follows it up with his self titled debut long player “Brat Farrar” in March 2012. The album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered solely by BRAT FARRAR who also played all the instruments as well. BRAT FARRAR has been described as the perfect mix of Blood Visions era Jay Reatard, Pere Ubu, Chrome, Suicide, The Pagans, Wire and the Butthole Surfers.
Here’s their excellent video for It’s On Me, a seven-ich released last year:
